Position Summary

Plans and coordinates the execution of Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) projects and turnaround (TAR) work.

Works in the Turnaround team to develop instrument and electrical turnaround plans. Ensures plans are optimized to reduce plant down time and equipment repair time by effectively utilizing plant assets and outside vendor assistance.

Provides required data for schedule and resource plans. Coordinates the execution of projects and turnaround activities with the different parts involved.

Position Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate plans are developed for execution of Electrical and Instrumentation projects.
  • Ensures accurate plans are developed for execution of TAR maintenance work including Preventative Maintenance, Major Maintenance and Contingency plans.
  • Ensures accurate job plans are established for all Preventative Maintenance and Condition Monitoring work activities by reviewing planned versus actuals resource/materials and parts usage and updating as required to reflect changing requirements.
  • Determines the appropriate level of planning required for TAR work and ensures effective plans are developed including identification of resources; spares parts, materials, documentation, statutory requirements and other special requirements are identified.
  • Identifies and manages the coordination of external resource requirements and ensures alignment with TAR schedule and resource availability.
  • Places demand/orders for all known stock and non-stock items and reflects delivery time within the plan.
  • Initiates development of all documentation and communication requirements such as attachment certificates for permits and requirements for any notifiable work.
  • Assists Supervisors and I&E Technicians by providing support in coordination of resources, materials and parts for the execution of work.
  • Works with Scheduler to ensure the development and execution of an effective schedule.
  • Delivers a detail staffing plan to execute the job/project.
  • Coordinates the resources according to the Schedule/Staffing plan.
  • Completes post-turnaround review of planned versus actuals for standard work plans to gauge accuracy of estimations and identify actions for continuous improvement.
  • Ensures any lessons learned from turnarounds are incorporated into future turnaround plans.
  • Completes turnaround work request investigations at time of request and completes appropriate level of preliminary planning required.
  • Provides assistance to Supervisors and Project Managers during execution of Major I&E Maintenance, coordinating any additional requirements and updating plans accordingly to reflect changes in scope as required.
  • Ensures accurate contingency plans are developed to allow for efficient mobilization of resources to execute work and reduce plant risk during times of planned and unplanned plant shutdowns without extending duration of downtime.
  • Participates in all turnaround Case Reviews.
  • Creates/Maintains master Turnaround/Outage Work Order lists.
  • Develops and manages turnaround master action item list related to Electrical Systems and Instrumentation.
  • Monitors team performance and adjusts what is required to stay on schedule with turnaround milestones and timelines.
  • Inputs data into network folders and turnaround schedules.
  • Refers any strategic issues to the Turnaround & Projects Execution Manager.
  • Supports Outages and high demand activities such as commissioning of facilities and equipment, in close coordination with the Maintenance Execution team.
  • Develops systems to monitor and record compliance with TAR plans.
  • Produces both routine and exception reports covering TAR planning issues.
  • Reports planning compliance issues to TAR management. Works with affected parties to resolve.
  • Updates the CMMS database with changes identified by system users or as a result of plant modifications.
  • Reviews the CMMS database to ensure it is complete and accurate. Updates where necessary.
  • Identifies opportunities to extend the coverage of the CMMS database.
  • Ensures links between the CMMS and other external systems are maintained.
  • Becomes familiar with all available CMMS functionality and identify opportunities for the Maintenance Department to extend its use of the system.

  • Participates in local and global teams to execute specific projects, or to foster and develop the corporate use of CMMS’s.
  • Contribute to the ‘operational excellence’ for Methanex USA as an effective member of the Maintenance Department.

Position Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Instrument & Control Systems Technology Trade Certification required.
  • 10+ years of experience in an I&E trade in the chemical manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years construction or project supervision experience.
  • 3+ years in a planning role desired.
  • Able to effectively communicate with a wide cross section of people.
  • An understanding of Maintenance job planning and scheduling techniques.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office products.
  • Experienced user of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. Development and configuration experience would be an advantage. Previous Maximo use would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with work scheduling software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
  • Familiarity with “Business Intelligence” tools and reporting systems.
  • Experienced with Industrial Maintenance practices and systems.
